Children's Miracle
Network
Southern
California Council and its chapters have supported the Children's Miracle
Network (CMN) since Phi Mu adopted it as a national philanthropy in 1986.
Children's Miracle Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting
the specialized care provided by children's hospitals across the United
States and Canada. These 170 hospitals treat over 17 million children
every year, providing the most current available technology and diagnosis,
life-saving research, and preventative education for the children and
their families. Over 75 corporate sponsors partner with their community
CMN hospital each year, and have raised over $3 billion dollars of support
since CMN's inception in 1983. In Phi Mu's 25 years as a national-level
sponsor, collegiate and alumnae chapters nationwide have raised over $7
million dollars for children's hospitals in their local communities through
grassroots efforts. The hospitals served by the Southern CA chapters are
Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), Children's Hospital of Orange County
(CHOC) and Rady Children's Hospital San Diego. The alumnae chapters in
those communities volunteer in many ways through fundraising and service.
Childrens Hospital
Los Angeles
Until Children's Hospital of Orange County was included as a CMN hospital
in 2006, area chapters served CHLA. Following a tradition begun by the
Orange County alumnae, the Los Angeles chapter hosts a successful wine
tasting event every year that combines sales, raffles and a silent auction.
CHLA conducts a "Holidays from the Heart" program during the
holiday season for which volunteers sponsor a family and purchase gifts.
And lastly, Phi Mus have manned the phone banks during the CHLA phone-a-thon
conducted each August. Phi Mus from all chapters are welcome to participate;
details are available on the Los Angeles chapter website.
Children's Hospital
of Orange County
CHOC was designated as a CMN hospital in 2006, and the Orange County chapter
now directly supports it through a variety of service projects. In 2006,
the Orange County chapter began adopting a CHOC family for Christmas.
In addition, the Orange County Chapter has also begun celebrating Phi
Mu's National Philanthropy Day with a BYOBook Drive, where members donate
children's books for donation to CHOC. All Phi Mus are welcome to join
the Orange County chapter in its support of CHOC; details are available
on the Orange County chapter website.
Phi Mu Foundation
Phi Mu Foundation is the educational, philanthropic and fundraising arm
of Phi Mu Fraternity. It raises funds to help meet the educational and
leadership development needs of collegians and alumnae.
Phi Mu Foundation preserves our history of yesterday, provides grants
and scholarships for educational and leadership development needs of today
and prudently manages our donors contributions to provide for our members
forever.
